Eric Sterling
spoke at the concluding plenary session on "Transforming
Social Institutions," Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002. He outlined
the end game for ending the war on drugs, and the steps
needed to get there. Other speakers included Cliff Thornton,
Executive Director, Efficacy,
Connecticut; Mike Gray, author, Chairman of Common
Sense for Drug Policy, California; and Charles Thomas,
Executive Director of Unitarian-Universalists
for Drug Policy Reform, Maryland.
Mr. Sterling also spoke at a workshop on "Cognitive
Liberties". He discussed the limitations of the
U.S. Constitution regarding government regulation of
one's mental states, and the responsibilities that attach
to "cognitive liberties." Other speakers included Charles
S. Grob, M.D., Director of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry,
Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, editor "Hallucinogens,
A Reader"; Richard Glen Boire, J.D., Co-Director
and Legal Counsel for the Center
for Cognitive Liberty & Ethics; Frances
M. Campbell, Esq., California; and Mark
Pesce, author, software engineer, virtual reality
pioneer.

Eric E.
Sterling setup a private luncheon briefing for members
of Canada's House of Commons
Special Committee on the Non-Medical Use of Drugs
during the committee's visit to Washington, DC. He invited
Kevin Zeese, President of Common
Sense for Drug Policy, to join him in the 1 ½ hour
briefing.
